Job description

Are you interested to join an international and dynamic research team? The newly-established Genome Biology & Epigenetics group is currently looking for new members.

As a Research Technician, you will play an important role in supporting a dynamic group of researchers. Your activities will involve versatile and interesting tasks including, but not limited to, conducting and troubleshooting experiments, supporting researchers in various projects, establishing and optimizing lab protocols, ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies, and serving as a contact point for all group members. The position offers possibilities to grow and expand beyond the listed tasks.

Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic, supportive technician with organizational skills and an open mind, willing to learning new skills. In addition you:

  • hold a lab technician (minimally HBO in the Dutch system) or an academic degree (BSc/MSc/PhD in molecular biology or a related field);
  • have experience and interest in DNA/protein techniques and/or cell culture;
  • like to organize lab matters;
  • are organized, efficient and proactive;
  • are apt at learning new techniques;
  • are able to work in an international team;
  • have good communication and English language skills.

Conditions of employment

We offer a temporary position (0.8 FTE) for one year in an international working environment with an opportunity for permanent employment. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranges between €2.656 and €4.012 (scale 8/9 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year. In addition, Utrecht University offers excellent secondary conditions, including an attractive retirement scheme, (partly paid) parental leave and flexible employment conditions (multiple choice model). The new research division of Genome Biology & Epigenetics (GBE) will start in November 2021 at the Department of Biology of Utrecht University. The GBE aims to answer fundamental questions of molecular biology such as: “How are genes switched on and off” and “What defines the identity of a cell?”. Towards this, we combine various experimental strategies, including genome and epigenome engineering, genome-wide studies, proteomics, single-cell measurements and computational modelling. Your position will be central for successfully answering these questions.

The GBE is embedded withing the Institute of Biodynamics and Biocomplexity - an inspiring and highly interactive scientific environment covering various disciplines ranging from Developmental Biology, Cell Biology, Neurobiology, Biophysics, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.

At the Faculty of Science there are 6 departments to make a fundamental connection with: Biology, Chemistry, Information and Computing Sciences, Mathematics, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Physics.
