Job description

We are looking for an inspiring Professor to lead the Public Administration and Policy (PAP) Group, who desires to work on the governance of sustainability challenges with a strong group of scientists in the field of public administration and policy. The new chair holder will enable the group's research ambitions by further strengthening its position in national and international networks, by managing its internal processes and people in a cooperative way, and by strengthening the established research lines as well as pursuing novel ideas. The successful applicant will play an active role in the Group's education programme and will provide a supportive working environment to academics at different career levels. Strengthening the acquisition of external funding for research and interacting with societal partners are key elements of the chair holder's responsibility.

The Public Administration and Policy Group is internationally renowned for its leading research and interdisciplinary education on the governance of sustainability challenges at a local, national, regional and global scale. The Group focuses on:
  • Governance of wicked problems in the domains of 1) water and climate, 2) food and agriculture, 3) energy and the circular economy;
  • Connecting disciplinary foundations of public administration, political science, and organisational science with interdisciplinary insights on sustainability governance;
  • Co-designing sustainability governance arrangements with societal partners.

Requirements

  • a PhD degree in public administration, political science or closely related discipline;
  • enthusiasm for and experience in managing professionals with an inspiring, supportive and inclusive leadership style;
  • profound knowledge of the governance of sustainability challenges and a vision for future research and education;
  • a track record of scientific publications of recognized international quality, contributing to disciplinary and interdisciplinary debates;
  • proven experience in interdisciplinary research and teaching and proven affinity with one or more of the Wageningen domains, in particular, water and climate, food and agriculture, energy and the circular economy;
  • a track record of acquiring, leading and managing externally funded research projects from a variety of funding sources;
  • a committed and inspiring educator and PhD supervisor, with a proven ability to design and innovate teaching methods;
  • commitment to achieving societal impact and the ability to interact effectively with societal partners in research and education.

You will be working for an international oriented organization with research projects all over the world. We offer you a challenging position as full professor and chair of the PAP Group.
In addition to a competitive salary, we offer several additional benefits, such as an end-of-year- extra month's salary, a holiday allowance and a pension plan with the Dutch pension fund for government and education. The Public Administration and Policy Group is currently composed of 8 tenured and non-tenured scientific staff, 1 lecturer, 1 support staff, 2 postdoctoral fellows and over15 PhD candidates. The Group is part of the Department of Social Sciences within Wageningen University. The Department provides social sciences research and academic education in the domains of Wageningen University: food, environment, health. With its emphasis on public administration, policy and sustainability, the Group is well positioned to collaborate with other social sciences and life sciences groups. The Public Administration and Policy Group participates together with the Environmental Policy Group, the Law Group and the Forest and Nature Conservation Policy Group in the Wageningen Centre for Sustainability Governance.
