Job description

Tilburg University is seeking enthusiastic colleagues for the position of Assistant professor to strengthen our university wide interdisciplinary research team on Digitalization of Health and Wellbeing.

Under the motto of broad prosperity for all, the university wants to work on what is of value to people, such as health, social contacts and mental well-being. Digitalization as an engine for innovation has created many opportunities in prevention, in self-direction, in informed shared decision-making and in personalized care. But there are also concerns: that caregivers are being replaced by devices to cut costs, causing a loss of the human touch, that liability issues lead to uncertainty, and that increasing data capture brings new cybersecurity risks.

The increasing need for investigating complex societal problems in a more integral way requires expertise that crosses the boundaries of a specific academic discipline. At Tilburg University, we aim to connect the expert knowledge, experience, and related research networks of the research groups to obtain interdisciplinary knowledge that will increase the understanding of well-being of individuals, teams, organizations, and society and their ability to adapt to a dynamic living and working environment.

The university has long-standing structural, long-term collaborations with health care organizations, municipalities and health care funders, among others. The university's ambition is to combine and strengthen these strategic collaborations through the establishment of university-wide Academic Workplaces, in which our researchers and students work in co-creation with strategic partners on solutions to major social issues. The Academic Workplace Digital Health & Mental Wellbeing gives substance to and contributes to a society with equal opportunities for health and well-being, an accessible healthcare system and sustainable innovation.

We seek to appoint nine assistant professors on the research theme Digitalization of Health and Wellbeing, to give the interdisciplinary research within the university a strong boost. Our interdisciplinary research in this research network combines knowledge and insights from the different disciplines within the university: economics, management, law, public administration, humanities, digital sciences, social or behavioral sciences, and theology.

Working as an Assistant professor will involve developing your own research  ideas and activities, which are related to the digitalization of health and wellbeing. Together with the other team members that are working on the same research theme, you will define the joint research program and develop a network in and outside the School and university (team science). You will create and maintain an intra-university network on Digitalization of Health and Wellbeing, that inspires other researchers and enables new initiatives.
In addition, you will perform teaching tasks, such as delivering classes and thesis supervision, in consultation with your supervisor. For this, we expect you to have a University Teaching Qualification, which can be developed after you have started working for the university.
