We are looking for a data engineer who is motivated to work in a multidisciplinary team of technical and non-technical experts, all of whom are shaping the design and deployment of analytics solutions at the university from the ground up. You will be pioneering in an energetic, result-oriented team that is focused on providing high-quality, sustainable analytics data input for improving education, research management and operations at the university. Your efforts will visibly and impactfully contribute to the provision of information and insights to several university stakeholders enabling our students and scientists to tackle the societal challenges of tomorrow.

Your challenge: as our data engineer, you will develop how we process data, ensuring quality and secure data handling as well as compliance with privacy guidelines and good data governance. You have a diverse task package and will be called upon to actively design and execute innovative solutions to provide cross-domain analytics data and insights. These solutions must fit the university's strategic vision as well as its infrastructure and policies. As such, we are looking for a proactive individual, a good communicator who is up for a challenge, and a professional that can pragmatically think in terms of solutions.

Your tasks will consist of:
  • Data engineering for cross-domain analytics
  • Building complex queries to answer business questions
  • Turning data into information using dashboards and reports
  • Developing, testing, deploying, and monitoring data pipelines

Requirements

  • Experience with Cloud Big Data and analytics platforms.
  • Experience with Cloud infrastructure, DevOps, Infrastructure as code.
  • Experience building, deploying and monitoring data pipelines.
  • Experience working with Python, SQL, Jupiter notebooks.
  • Experience working with Git or other version control systems.
  • Experience developing business critical solutions.
  • Knowledge of REST services, API's and JSON.
  • Experience in working with Unix systems.
  • Preferably knowledge of machine learning.
  • Preferably experience using Databricks and Delta Lake.
  • Experience with the Agile way of working is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluent in English at minimum, Dutch is a plus.
  • Eager to learn new things and a can-do mindset.
  • Willingness to perform operational tasks and develop other skill sets outside of strict job descriptions.
  • All appropriate permits to work in the EU.
