Job description

  • Do you enjoy coaching and advising young, smart people? Would you like to contribute to the study success of our students?
  • Do you get satisfaction from preventing, rather than curing the need for student support?
  • Will you help us to take our student guidance to the next level?
  • Are you an experienced coach with organizational skills, and ready for the next step in your career in higher education?

Then you are our new Academic Advisor!

As an Academic Advisor, you may work for a bachelor, master or premaster program. You will use single interventions to coach students, and design student support to prevent the need for interventions.

You will be advising students based on single intervention on study attitude, pace of study, planning and tackling study problems, personal problems. If necessary, you will ensure referral to other professionals, either inside our Student Guidance chain or to professionals outside of TU/e.

Other tasks include:
  • Monitoring the study progress of students in your program;
  • Informing students about study-related matters;
  • Advising on binding study advice for first-year bachelor and premaster students;
  • Advising the program directors and the examination committee on requests from students and incorporating these in process and policy advice;
  • Advising the program directors on the scope and application of relevant regulations and upcoming changes;
  • Participating in university-wide consultation structures and working groups with regard to student guidance, policy, organization and educational innovation.

Position and team

In this position you are part of the department of Education and Student Affairs (ESA). ESA is responsible for the support of education to the academic departments within the bachelor and master programs at the TU/e. Behind the scenes, ESA provides support for a well-balanced curriculum, study roster, and advice on evaluation and improvement of courses, organization and coordination of education and, of course, academic advisement.

The university has some 30+ academic advisors; we foresee a need to expand this team. Next to expansion, the natural turnover and fluctuations mean there is a permanent need for a flexible team of experienced academic advisors to fill in wherever there is a temporary gap of capacity or expertise.

You will (initially) be part of the Student Facilities team at the central ESA division, but working wherever there is a need in the organization for an Academic Advisor (you are part of a small pool of flex Academic Advisors).
We aim for you to be permanently positioned in a science department after a limited period of working from the flex pool. Depending on the current need, you may be permanently positioned in a science department directly.
