We are looking for a motivated PhD student who is willing to contribute to the further development of AI applications in the medical sector.

Job description

The introduction of AI applications for tumor segmentation is of great importance for improving the treatment of diseases such as pleural mesothelioma. This disease is characterized by crescent-shaped tumors that make it difficult to measure tumor growth using traditional diameter methods. Manual segmentation of these tumors is very time-consuming and requires the expertise of medical specialists. By using AI in combination with a medical expert, we can significantly reduce the time and cost of segmentation while still achieving accurate and reliable results. This will contribute to improving the treatment of mesothelioma and validating new drugs.

In this position, you will be responsible for improving methods for volumetric measurements in CT scans for pleural mesothelioma. You will work with a team of six external centers to share data and carry out projects. Your research will range from quantifying the uncertainty of AI model segmentations to the actual clinical implementation of the algorithm. In addition, you will be responsible for internationally validating new response evaluation criteria that we will establish based on the AI-predicted tumor volumes in the CT scans.
