Job description

Are you passionate about helping university students develop the skills they need to tackle complex scientific and societal issues? Do you have experience teaching and coaching international and multidisciplinary groups of young adults in their academic, professional and personal development?
If so, the Education and Learning Sciences (ELS) Group is offering a temporary position for a (skills) teacher (0.7-0.9 fte) for the academic year 2023-2024. You will train various Bachelor and Master skills (e.g., Presentation, Negotiation, Team collaboration, Management, Entrepreneurial skills) and coach teams as well as individual students in Academic Consultancy Training and Student Challenges. The aim of these courses is to equip students with the necessary skills to contribute both individually as well as in teams to complex scientific and societal issues. As a teacher, you take the lead in front of a group of students and cooperate with colleagues to organize the classes and actively participate in course innovations. You know how to coach students in their professional and personal development in a stimulating way by supporting students to identify their personal learning goals and guide them in their related development. In all ELS courses, students from all over the world and from different study programs participate, which requires experience in dealing with diversity, both culturally as well as disciplinary. You do not mind taking up different tasks and you experience rotating tasks as an opportunity to learn from. You are an active member of the ELS teacher team.
As a teacher you will be (co)responsible for:
  • teaching Bachelor skills courses, mostly presentation and collaboration in various BSc programs WUR wide; including the organization, co-design and evaluation of the courses;
  • teaching Master skills courses in presentation, negotiation, management, entrepreneurial agency and communication and personal development. Precise course portfolio will be discussed with you;
  • coach students both individually as well as at the team level in Academic Consultancy Training and Student Challenges;
  • further development of (skills) courses in terms of incorporating contemporary insights, and/or experimenting with different teaching methods;

Requirements

  • you have an MSc degree in education and/or training and affinity with life sciences or an MSc in the life sciences/interdisciplinary sciences including teaching affinity and experience;
  • you aspire to contribute to university students' academic, personal and professional development;
  • you have a demonstrable experience with teaching, coaching and/or facilitating international and multidisciplinary (groups of) young adults in their personal or professional development;
  • quality of education and teaching receives your attention and you can show this by examples of related experience;
  • you like and master the combination of, on the one side, co-creating new ideas and experimenting with educational innovations as part of a team, and, on the other side, working more independently e.g. to prepare for your own classes;
  • you have excellent communication skills, both orally and written, and you are fluent in both Dutch and English;
  • you show an open minded and pro-active attitude and are well-organized;
  • you preferably possess a BKO (Basis Kwalificatie Onderwijs) or a comparable teaching certificate.
  • you are available from Mid-August, preferably willing to be introduced in some courses in May/June to be able to kick-start in the new academic year.

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between €2.960,- and €4.670,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10). This position is for 1 year and a minimum of 0.7 fte. Additional fte's (0.8-0.9 fte) are dependent on the amount of (ACT) coaching work a candidate is willing to take up.
