This position offers the opportunity for someone with experience in leading the development of major collaborative grants to work with all the academic talent that EUR has to offer and increase our performance and participation in funded major research initiatives.

As senior collaborative proposal development partner you work on 6-8 proposals per year for major research initiatives of which EUR is the coordinator. You work on proposals for funding schemes national (NWA-ORC, NWO-KIC, Zwaartekracht) and international (Horizon, MSCA-DN, EIT, IHI). In tandem with the leading researcher you build consortia, help shape the core concept of the proposal, manage the process of collaborative writing, ensure compliance and pursue proposals of the highest possible quality. Where needed you support researchers, research teams and faculties in defining a long term strategy that leads towards a good track record for coordinating major research initiatives.

Job description
Your main responsibility is to find and create opportunities for national and European research funding and then work with one or more researchers to win funding.

You will join the Grants team at Erasmus Research Services (ERS) where you work in a team of 13 consisting of other proposal developers, project managers and a financial controller. You also count on support from the rest of the ERS department such as legal counsels, data stewards, business developers and communication advisors.

As proposal development partner you go beyond advising researchers on the intricacies of research funding schemes; you pro-actively match funding opportunities with suitable talent and become a partner to the research talent in the complete proposal process from conceptualizing through to submission of the proposal. You take ownership of the multi-stakeholder process of preparing a collaborative proposal, becoming the lead researcher's right hand in leading the consortium towards a strong proposal. When needed you act as a strategic advisor for research talent, research teams and faculties to create a strategy and track record that is supportive of leading major research initiatives.

In addition, as a senior on the team you provide a contribution to developing the grants team's ways of working and training the more junior members of the team. You represent ERS internally and externally and convey our values.

Your main responsibilities are:

• Be the right hand to lead researchers preparing major collaborative research proposals;
• Share your knowledge and expertise with grants colleagues;
• Help develop processes and procedures within the ERS Grants Support team;
• Identify and create opportunities for personal and collaborative research grants at NWO and other national research funders as well as at European level (Horizon Europe, Groeifonds, Zwaartekracht, NWA etc);
• Support researchers as they apply for research grants, and coach them throughout the application process;
• Advice researchers, research teams and faculties on strategies that are supportive of winning major research grants;
• Proactively engage with external contacts like partner institutes, societal stakeholders and relevant agencies to anticipate new developments and to help in building consortia.

Required experience, skills and competencies:

• The ambition and willingness to work towards capacity building the university to become increasingly more successful and ambitious in the field of grants;
• Several years (5+) of relevant work experience in supporting and advising in the application of NWO or Horizon research grants.
• The ambition to take on the significant challenge of coordinating consortia of intersectoral, interdisciplinary, international stakeholders as they work towards a major collaborative grant. Prior experience will be viewed positively;
• A proactive attitude and proven capability to build trust in collaborations;
• Excellent verbal and written command of English (CEFR level C1). Dutch language skills (level B) will be viewed positively. You should have willingness to take Dutch Courses in case the level of Dutch is not sufficient.

An internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with good working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

The start date of this position is 1 August 2023 (or asap) and you will be based at the Erasmus Research Services (ERS), located at Erasmus University Rotterdam campus Woudestijn/Rotterdam. The position is for 0,8 fte - 1 fte. The salary is dependent on your experience and knowledge and ranges from a minimum of € 5.506 to a maximum of € 6.702 gross per month on a fulltime basis, in accordance with Scale 13 of the CAO-NU. In addition, we offer an 8% holiday allowance, an end-of-year payment of 8.3%, and a very generous paid leave scheme.
