Wat ga je doen?
Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.) has a vacancy for an Assistant Professor in Strategic Management, with expertise in innovation management and/or international business. Of the position, 60% of the time is reserved for teaching activities and 40% is dedicated to research. Candidates are expected to teach in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs of the School.

The candidate will do research and teach courses at bachelor and master level offered by U.S.E.’s Entrepreneurship section – which is the home to our school’s researchers in Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Strategic Management, International Business, and Marketing. We are seeking candidates who can contribute in the areas of strategic management, and/or its related disciplines (innovation management, international business). However, candidates with expertise in any of our section’s disciplines are welcome to apply.

Our new colleague will spend 40% of her/his time on quantitative research, to be published in high-quality academic journals. The U.S.E. research institute encourages collaboration with researchers from other disciplines, and research activities that address societally relevant issues. All candidates are encouraged to indicate how they can collaborate with the current staff at our section.

The assistant professor will take care of good teaching in accordance with our academic and departmental guidelines. The candidate should be able to teach in (some of) the areas of strategic management, innovation, international business, and competitive strategy. Furthermore, the assistant professor supervises bachelor and master theses and other research projects by students.

Functie-eisen

The candidate has:
  • a PhD degree in economics, management or a related discipline;
  • a strong track record (or pipeline for younger candidates) in research as demonstrated among others by publications and citations in international recognised journals;
  • strong quantitative skills in econometrics, social sciences and/or data science
  • (some) teaching experience in an international academic environment with proven ability to inspire students from undergraduate to graduate levels, apparent from positive assessments by students and peers;
  • strong communication and coordination skills;
  • strong command of spoken and written English;
  • preferred: ability to teach in Dutch.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

  • a position for 18 months, with the expectation of being tenured after 18 months;
  • a gross monthly salary between €4,332 and €5,929 in the case of full-time employment (salary scale 11 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU);
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.

The candidate is expected to teach in our programs Science and Business Management and International Management. (The section is also involved in teaching at the bachelor program Economics and Business Economics and the master programs Business Development and Entrepreneurship and Business and Social Impact.)
