Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.) has a vacancy for an Assistant Professor in Accounting, with expertise in financial accounting or management accounting. Of the position, 60% of the time is reserved for teaching activities and 40% is dedicated to research. Candidates are expected to teach in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs of the School.

Wat ga je doen?
The candidate will do research and teach courses at bachelor and master level offered by U.S.E.’s Finance section – which is the home to our school’s researchers in Finance and Accounting. We are seeking candidates who can contribute in the areas of financial management, specifically in the area of accounting. Given the developments in our section (both in terms of research and education), candidates with knowledge (or a willingness to develop this knowledge) in the area of sustainability accounting are preferred. As an Assistant Professor in Accounting, you will play a crucial role in advancing the department's research agenda, contributing to impactful scholarly publications, and inspiring the next generation of financial management professionals. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about pushing the boundaries of financial management knowledge, committed to excellence in teaching, and eager to contribute to the collegial and collaborative environment of our department.

Our new colleague will spend 40% of her/his time on research, to be published in high-quality academic journals. The U.S.E. research institute encourages collaboration with researchers from other disciplines, and research activities that address societally relevant issues (specifically sustainability). All candidates are encouraged to indicate how they can collaborate with the current staff at our section.

The assistant professor will take care of good teaching in accordance with our academic and departmental guidelines. The candidate should be able to teach in (some of) the areas of financial accounting, management accounting, and financial management. Furthermore, the assistant professor supervises bachelor and master theses and other research projects by students.

The candidate has

• a PhD degree in accounting or a closely related field from an accredited institution;
• a strong track record (or clear potential for, in case of younger candidates) of impactful research (as demonstrated among others by publications and citations in international recognised journals);
• preferably strong quantitative skills in econometrics, social sciences and/or data science;
• demonstrated excellence in teaching, with (some) teaching experience in an international academic environment and proven ability to inspire students from undergraduate to graduate levels (as demonstrated from positive assessments by students);
• effective communication, interpersonal and coordination skills;
• a collaborative and collegial approach to working with colleagues and students;
• strong command of spoken and written English;
• preferred: ability to teach in Dutch.

• Een functie voor 12 maanden met uitzicht op een dienstverband voor onbepaalde tijd;
• Een werkweek van 36 tot 40 uur met een bruto maandsalaris van minimaal € 4.332,- tot maximaal € 5.929,- bij een fulltime dienstverband (schaal 11 van de cao Nederlandse Universiteiten);
• 8% vakantiegeld en een eindejaarsuitkering van 8,3%;
• een pensioenregeling, gedeeltelijk doorbetaald ouderschapsverlof en flexibele arbeidsvoorwaarden op basis van de cao Nederlandse Universiteiten.
