Job description

We are looking for a scientific research technician who will be providing technical support to our research team by performing a variety of tasks in support of research. You will be working closely with team members (two postdocs, one PhD candidate) of the NC-CHOICE project.

Your job
As a scientific research technician you are responsible for providing technical support to our research team by performing a variety of tasks in support of research. Your daily work consists of supporting the team in hands-on practices such as cell and tissue culture, biochemistry, molecular biology, tissue processing, and histology. Sampling, testing, measuring, recording and analysing results as part of our scientific team will be your daily activities. Furthermore, you will assist in the processing of primary animal and human tissues and occasionally contribute to activities that relate to experimental animal studies. If you like working in a multidisciplinary team like ours and enjoy multitasking, then this is the job for you. Requirements

This job is right for you if you:
  • have BSc degree in Applied Sciences (HLO; hoger laboratorium onderwijs) or a MSc in the field of Life Sciences (e.g., biomedical sciences, regenerative medicine, biology of disease);
  • have at least two to three years working experience as research technician;
  • have experience with cell and tissue culture, biochemical assays (e.g., ELISAs, qPCR), and histological techniques (immunohistochemistry and biochemical stainings);
  • have good communication skills in a team environment;
  • are practical, organised and precise, and feel responsible for your work;
  • like to support and facilitate in a hands-on way in various projects and like to supervise students in basic lab activities;
  • like to explore and learn new methods;
  • do not mind working with cadaveric tissues;
  • Experience with confocal microscopy and/or flow cytometry is an advantage;
  • Experience with techniques often used in musculoskeletal research is an advantage.

Besides this, we are looking for someone who works meticulously and has good English communication skills. You will be working in a young, international and multidisciplinary research team of eight postdocs, eight PhDs, three staff members and students and headed by Prof. Marianna Tryfonidou).

Conditions of employment

We offer:
  • an employment contract for one year, with the possibility of two years extension;
  • a working week of 32 to 40 hours and a gross monthly salary between €2,693 and €4,103 in the case of full-time employment (salary scale 7, 8 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU));
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.
