The faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences is excited to announce the search for a teacher in Modelling, Uncertainty and Data for Engineers (MUDE) for our MSc-programmes in Civil Engineering, Applied Earth Sciences and Environmental Engineering.
MUDE is a collaborative educational module within our faculty, where approximately 300 MSc students begin their studies together. This module focuses on onboarding students from around the globe (with 30% international students) and provides engaging education in modelling, uncertainty, and data analysis for engineering applications. MUDE is delivered by a large, flexible team of lecturers and supported by teaching assistants. We currently have an opening in the core teaching team (comprising 5 lecturers) for a teacher fully dedicated to education.
From an educational perspective, MUDE is highly versatile, including lectures to explain theoretical concepts and practical assignments to illustrate their application. It also features small projects with groupwork to solve challenging problems derived from societal demands relevant to our faculty’s field of application. MUDE relies heavily on open-source digital software tools (e.g., Python, git or Jupyter) to facilitate the incorporation of computation as a complementary learning approach to the classical theoretical topics covered. As a faculty, we are very proud of this new educational setup and the standards it sets for our education.
We are looking for a dedicated teacher to become fully involved in the content and didactics and actively support and lead in-class activities with students. As a core member of the MUDE team, you will also handle many of the organisational tasks necessary to deliver the module. Additionally, you will collaborate with the team to develop new teaching materials and take responsibility for advancing MUDE's new teaching standards, sharing these innovations with the rest of our scientific staff within the faculty.
For this exciting position, we are looking for candidates with a strong focus on education and a solid knowledge base in a technical field relevant to our engineering programs. We value interdisciplinary breadth and a wide range of experience over expertise in a specific field.
Fixed-term contract: 1 year.
