Job description

Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University, invites applications for a post-doctoral research position in the area of behavioural operations. The position will focus on investigating the behaviour of decision makers/ planners when faced with unexpected disturbances that require real-time adaptations.  

The project will specifically focus on planning and control in the context of transportation and logistics.  This includes, for example, the real-time rerouting of vehicles in response to non-recurring traffic disturbances, vehicle breakdowns or human error. The research is part of an interdisciplinary research project focussed on real-time and adaptive planning in collaboration with the department of Civil Engineering and the department of Industrial Engineering and Business Information Systems of the University of Twente and a consortium of companies in transportation and (online) retailing.

Requirements

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Traffic Engineering, or a closely related field. Successful candidates should have experience with empirical research methods and running experiments. We look for candidates with excellent communication skills to interact with academics and practitioners alike. Demonstrated interdisciplinary research collaboration is a plus.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: Temporary, three years.

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to publish papers in top-level journals and present at major conferences. At the department of Technology and Operations Management, the research will closely work together with professors Niels Agatz and Daan Stam. The appointment is for three years. The salary is in scale 11 (48k-53k) and includes several secondary benefits. Note that substantial tax benefits may apply to non-Dutch citizens.
