We’re looking for a Postdoc to join our research group investigating gene transfer and gene editing strategies for correcting muscle progenitor cells from patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Job description

The Department of Molecular Cell Biology is looking for an highly motivated Postdoc to work on a 2-year research project. As Postdoc in the Department of Molecular Cell Biology you will be part of a research team working in the field of gene editing. Your research project will involve investigating gene transfer and gene editing strategies for the correction of muscle progenitor cells from patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This research will include working with state-of-the-art viral vector systems and genome modification tools. You will be expected to supervise and manage a small team in coordination with the other group members on a daily basis, as well as organize, communicate and publish the experimental findings.

Requirements

You have obtained a PhD degree in Biomedical sciences or a similar field within the last five years and possess solid experience in molecular and cell biology. Previous experience with viral vector systems and/or gene editing technologies is also desirable. You should be highly motivated and capable of working both independently and in a team, and be proficient in both written and spoken English. 

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: for the duration of the project.

You will be employed on the basis of a 36-hour week. The appointment is initially for one year with the possibility to be extended by one additional year, for the duration of the project.  Your salary will depend on your qualifications and experience, with a maximum of € 4,194 gross per month based on a full time position (scale 10 of the Collective Labor Agreement for University Hospitals).

Molecular Cell Biology

The LUMC is a center for medical innovation that aims to improve patient care through leading international research. To provide our patients with a safe and friendly environment, we need doctors, medical care specialists, support staff and academic researchers. Within the Department of Molecular Cell Biology, the Virus & Stem Cell Biology section focuses on developing viruses and stem/progenitor cells into therapeutic agents for the treatment of human diseases. The Section is further divided into sub-groups with this research project being carried out in the Gene editing sub-group. Headed by an associate professor, the sub-group also includes two research technicians, three PhD students and a postdoc. BSc and MSc students regularly join the team to perform their final internships. All research in the department is performed in collaboration with groups within and outside the LUMC.
