Job description

The University Medical Center Utrecht (UMC Utrecht) has a newly established Utrecht Trial Innovation Alliance (U-TRIAL) initiative. Applications are invited for exciting new posts as part of this initiative. A senior research position is available in each of these six priority fields: circulatory health, brain, cancer, infections & immunity, regenerative medicine and child health. To complete the U-TRIAL team, the position of an overall head of U-TRIAL is available.

U-TRIAL offers you an opportunity to increase your impact. It builds on a strong scientific basis in all six priority fields. The present infrastructure includes the Julius Center, renowned for its multidisciplinary methodology for clinical research, where the head of U-TRIAL will be appointed. It further builds on Julius Clinical Ltd., the Academic Research Organization, proven capable of design and execution of international trials. You will have the opportunity to assume a part-time appointment as scientific officer at Julius Clinical. You will work closely with colleagues in the UMC Utrecht to implement innovative and highly relevant clinical trials.

For 40-60% of the time you will stay in your current position at the UMCU. For the other 40-60% you will free to pursue your activities at U-TRIAL.

Requirements

You are a well-qualified medical specialist with a strong track record in clinical trials (preferably including late phase trials) in your field. You have ambition and vision for developing and implementing a clinical trials portfolio with both global scientific impact as well as impact on healthcare. You have proven drive and ability, evidenced by completed and published trials that impacted healthcare.

In addition to these requirements, for the position of overall head of U-TRIAL you are a proven successful leader, capable of managing a large portfolio of clinical trials. You have a cross cutting vision and are part of a well-established and productive international network that includes academic, industry and other funding bodies.

For these 100% posts, the position and salary scale that is appropriate for your activities at U-TRIAL will depend on your experience.

U-TRIAL

U-TRIAL is designed to strengthen UMC Utrecht’s pursuit of ambitious goals in late phase clinical trials in its abovementioned six priority fields. Strategic investments in U-TRIAL aim to increase the number of high quality, high impact clinical trials initiated and/or conducted by UMC Utrecht. This will include clinical trials sponsored by pharmaceutical companies as well as investigator initiated and governmental (e.g. EU or national health institute) funded trials. The head of U-TRIAL and the six professors of clinical trials, together with the professor of clinical trial methodology and the Julius Clinical chief scientific officer, will form the management team that has the authority and means to achieve the clinical trial goals set by UMC Utrecht.
