Functieomschrijving

The mechanical properties of polymers are greatly improved when they are filled with nanoparticles such as silica spheres or cellulose nanofibers, but the improvement depends on strong bonding between the matrix and the filler. In this project you will develop mechanically sensitive probe molecules that become fluorescent when chemical bonds are broken, and you will use them to  study the relation between interfacial interaction strength and mechanical properties.
