Data-driven model development

Job description

These two PhD positions are part of a research project called ToGRIP. ToGRIP aims to develop new joint traffic management and freight trip planning methods by developing an innovative, integrated traffic and logistics model for port-related traffic and traffic between regional hubs and distribution centres, including important corridors like the ITS corridor Rotterdam-Frankfurt-Vienna.
You will focus on developing an integrated, data-driven traffic and logistics model. Data-driven implies that you will use an extensive amount of traffic data (speeds and volumes), including GPS data from trucks and other data sources for your model. PhD position 1 will focus on empirical analysis and model development at the micro-level. PhD position 2 will focus on empirical analysis and model development at the macro-level. Both PhD students will work closely together in order to make sure that at the end of the project their models can be integrated. You will collaborate with researchers from the Delft University of Technology, DiTTLab and TNO and with non-academic partners, such as the Port of Rotterdam, Rijkswaterstaat, Portbase, SmarPort, Deltalinqs and TLN.
