Job description

The Faculty of Law of Maastricht University is looking for a lecturer in private law to teach courses at Bachelor Level. The position is for a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 years. During the first two years of the appointment, the successful candidate will in addition to teaching responsibilities (75% of the time) have research time (25% of the time). This offers the candidate the possibility to conduct research towards the writing of a proposal for a PhD project, or, when the candidate is already in possession of a PhD degree for post-doctoral research funding applications. After two years, the teaching obligations are increased to 90% for the remainder of the appointment.

The successful candidate may be involved in teaching a wide variety of courses across different fields. Participation in the Faculty’s University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) training programme, leading to a UTQ certificate, is compulsory.

For the research part of this appointment, the successful candidate will be part of the faculty’s Maastricht European Private Law Institute (MEPLI) that offers a challenging and collegial place to discuss research ideas.

The successful candidate can be, depending on his or her language skills and qualifications, asked to teach in both the Faculty’s English Language Bachelor European Law School, as well as the Dutch language bachelor Rechtsgeleerdheid.

Requirements

  • Master degree in law, already awarded or to be obtained this academic year (2016-2017);
  • Bachelor degree (not necessarily in law);
  • Excellent academic record;
  • Clear interest in and preferably experience in teaching;
  • Clear interest in doing research in any of the five fields mentioned;
  • Excellent English language skills (written and spoken);
  • Excellent command of Dutch and a Dutch law degree is a preference.

 

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: for a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 years.

The appointment as lecturer will be for a maximum period of four years. The salary is dependent on academic qualifications and experience. The salary will be set in scale 10 of the CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten (minimum € 2.588,00 and maximum € 4.084,00).
