Job description

The associate professor will contribute to the research program “Learning and Teaching in Technology-Enhanced Learning Environments” of the Welten Institute. The Welten Institute carries out integrated research, development, and valorisation activities to generate theory-based and technology-enriched educational methods and innovations that are effective, efficient and enjoyable for both the learner and the educator. The candidate will have a research profile related to the research topics on open education, multimodal interaction, learning analytics or mobile and seamless learning. The candidate will supervise PhD students, will take responsibility for managing teams and will be allocated for one day a week to teaching or teaching related work in the Open Universiteit; especially teaching in the master Learning Sciences. The candidate will coordinate the development of research proposals for international and national funding programs.

As Associate Professor, you will be responsible for the planning, realization and coordination of a number of integrated research projects, within at least one of the research themes. This includes not only research, but also the design and development of educational solutions and the valorisation thereof. Finally, an important part of your job is bringing in externally funded research projects and supervising PhD candidates, both internal and external

Requirements

We are looking for people who:

  • have a PhD in a relevant field (e.g., educational sciences, learning sciences, educational technology, cognitive sciences, computer science)
  • are member of a relevant research school
  • are evident successful in acquiring and supervising externally funded research projects both at the national and European level
  • realize frequent publications in SSCI journals (in total at least 25 publications and minimum of 6 in the last 5 years with at least 2 as first author)
  • have an excellent command of the English language
  • have international reputation in a relevant academic field
  • have a broad network nationally and internationally in the field of educational or psychological research
  • contribute to the department’s collaborative atmosphere, have an open and transparent communication style;
  • have teaching Experience and hold a Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) or are willing to acquire this qualification in the near future 

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: Temporary position for 3 years.

The maximum salary for a full-time position is € 5.861,- gross per month (salary scale 13) in accordance with VSNU standards and depending upon your qualifications and experience.

Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences

The faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences is strong in education and research. The faculty offers scientific bachelor and master studies Psychology and a master Educational Sciences. Four different master studies Psychology are offered: Work and organizational psychology, Health psychology, Clinical psychology and Lifespan psychology. The research programme of the scientific field of psychology is positioned within one of the four afore-mentioned fields of study of psychology. The Welten-instituut is the research centre for learning, teaching and technology. It is a department of the faculty which plays an important role in research into the innovation of education and professionalization of teachers, both nationally and internationally.
