Job description

HollandPTC is the independent clinic and research centre in which TU Delft, Leiden University Medical Centre and Erasmus Medical Centre collaborate in providing excellent care and groundbreaking research. HollandPTC has the ambition to treat complex oncology patients including patients diagnosed with lung cancer. To facilitate the introduction of proton therapy for this patient category we are planning to appoint a project physicist.

The project physicist will prepare the clinical introduction of lung cancer treatments at HollandPTC. The work will be carried in a multidisciplinary team under daily supervision of the Medical Physics team in HollandPTC and in close collaboration with the lung cancer research group.

Your tasks will include:

  • Implementation of a 4D treatment planning approach mitigating the impact of respiratory induced motion;
  • Setting up a protocol for image-guidance and treatment adaptation for lung cancer treatments;
  • Implementation of patient-specific quality assurance procedures for lung cancer treatments. 

Work environment

Proton therapy is a new therapy for the treatment of specific tumors, which has been approved by the Dutch government. The mission of HollandPTC is to give patients the best proton therapy currently available, in a safe and hospitable environment where they are treated with consideration and care. Furthermore, it is our assignment to demonstrate the added value of proton therapy in collaboration with the national and international radiotherapy and oncology field. We aim to achieve this from the ambition to become a leading institution for therapy and scientific research. HollandPTC is an independent outpatient center located in Delft. The center is equipped with advanced imaging and proton irradiation equipment. Medio 2018 we expect to treat the first patient.

Requirements

  • You are a highly motivated candidate with a master’s degree or PhD in (Applied) Physics, Technical Medicine, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience in the field of radiation therapy is preferred.
  • You are results-driven and enthusiastic about converting complex problems into practical solutions, and have a clear eye for patient safety.
  • You are comfortable in using Python.   Implementation of a 4D treatment planning approach mitigating the impact of respiratory induced motion;
  • Setting up a protocol for image-guidance and treatment adaptation for lung cancer treatments;
  • Implementation of patient-specific quality assurance procedures for lung cancer treatments.
  • You are an excellent team player, likes to work in a multidisciplinary environment and possess good communication skills.
  • Being able to present a certificate of good conduct is a condition for the appointment. 

Conditions of employment

You will receive a temporary position for 1 year. The gross monthly salary is max € 4.216,- (scale 10). You will receive an end of the year bonus of 8,3% and a holiday allowance of 8%.

The terms of employment are according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Dutch University Medical Centers (CAO UMC).
