Functieomschrijving

The PhD candidate will work within an international research project PASSAnT in cooperation with industrial partners from Netherlands and Belgium. The general goal of the project is to enable safety and security of large and small harbours through connected camera network with intelligent surveillance solutions. The PhD candidate will perform research with potential deployment of results in industrial products of ViNotion, Securitas and KPN.

The goal of the PhD candidate is to research and develop efficient algorithms for people tracking over multi-camera network and for detection of abnormal behaviour within a harbour infrastructure. The most challenging target for the research is the automated analysis of the multitude types of people activities and accurate classification of suspicious behaviour types. An additional challenge comes from the fact that some suspicious types can be unseen before. The technical scope is not limited to any specific analysis techniques, but it is foreseen that deep learning techniques and technology will be part of this research.

Video Coding & Architectures
The PhD student will be working in the Video Coding Architecture group (vca.ele.tue.nl ) in the Department of Electrical Engineering at TU/e. The Department of Electrical Engineering is one of the nine departments of the Eindhoven University of Technology and provides BSc and MSc programs in Electrical Engineering. The department has nine research groups and has research collaborations with other departments at the Eindhoven University of Technology as well as with a large number of other universities and companies, both within The Netherlands and internationally. The Electrical Engineering faculty has approximately 300 employees and over a 1000 students.
