We are looking for a post-doc who will contribute to the development of guidelines and theory that can be used by infrastructure managers in design of innovative replacement projects in interconnected infrastructures, safeguarding interests from the perspective of the operation and maintenance phase of the infrastructures.
The research is part of a research project that focuses on manageability of interconnected infrastructures as part of the NGInfra programme. The post-doc will have unique access to cases of interconnected infrastructure replacement projects of large Dutch asset managers. As a key part of the research, the post-doc will work with our partners where experts from ongoing cross-infrastructural replacement projects meet in a community-of-practice (CoP). The post-doc can use these meetings to connect theoretical insights with empirical data and insights from experts.

The candidate should hold a doctoral degree and will be based in the EAM group of the IDM section (3MD). The candidate preferably has an interdisciplinary profile, with a strong basis in the engineering sciences and preferably a background in multi-actor engineering systems and services management. The candidate should have experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods, and excellent analytical, social, and communication skills. Given that the majority of data will be in Dutch, fluency (written and spoken) in Dutch is strongly preferred.

Fixed-term contract: 2 years (or shorter with full-time work).

Faculty Civil Engineering and Geosciences - Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management (TPM)

The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences of Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) provides leading international research and education, with innovation and sustainability as central themes. Research and education are closely interwoven and address societal challenges. The Faculty consists of the departments of Transport and Planning, Structural Engineering, Geoscience and Engineering, Water Management, Hydraulic Engineering, and Geoscience and Remote Sensing.

The research is embedded in the Integral Design and Management section. This research is conducted in collaboration with the Department of Multi-Actor Systems (MAS) in the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management (TPM), who will host a linked PhD position as part of the project.

The Integral Design and Management section provides research and education in the field of integrated design, project management, and asset management of civil infrastructure in all phases of the life cycle. The section consists of three chairs: Integrated Design, Engineering Project Management, and Engineering Asset Management (EAM). The section currently employs 9 staff members and 20 PhD candidates across the three chairs. The focus of the EAM chair is on integral analysis, design, development, and management of (civil) infrastructures, often in close cooperation with our direct colleagues from other TU Delft faculties.
