Due to an expanding demand for scientific support, we are looking for an experienced software developer who wants to support our academic researchers by developing scientific software and gives advice on the (technical) organisation and optimisation of their research.

You will be part of the Information Management & Consulting department of Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM). The team consists of 25 consultants, developers and application managers who work together closely. Projects include the development of intelligent decision support systems for the Dutch flower auction, supply chain management, public transport, and future energy markets (smart grid).

Your tasks include:

  • the development of simulation software, including user interfaces for web and mobile platforms

  • data and platform management

  • co-operation with academic researchers in professionalising their code

  • advise on technical architecture and custom solutions.

Requirements

Required qualifications

The ideal candidate has:

  • a relevant bachelor degree or academic title

  • good knowledge of Python (Java or R are a great advantage)

  • good knowledge of storage and databases, preferably with services such as Google BigQuery

  • experience with Linux, agile development, and unit testing

  • knowledge of algorithms and data structures

  • knowledge of mathematics and statistics

  • excellent knowledge of Dutch and English (CEFR C1).

And great advantages would also be:

  • experience with tools and languages used in academic research, such as Matlab

  • demonstrable affinity with scientific research

  • ability to interact with academic researchers

  • experience with and knowledge about optimising development processes

  • good social and communication skills

  • ability to work independently and as a team player

  • ability to easily grasp new subjects

  • a proactive and result-oriented attitude

  • ability to use creativity to solve technical challenges.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: Temporary, 1 year with the possibility of extension.

Employment conditions

The conditions of employment comply with the collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU). We offer a full-time contract, initially for one year with the option for extension if requirements are met.

Salary is subject to training and experience, and may vary from € 2,588 gross per month (scale 10 CAO NU) up to € 4,757 gross per month (scale 11 CAO NU), based on a full-time contract of 38 hours.
