Job description

We offer a position for a research analist, cell and molecular biology for 6 months (36 hours working week), which will be extended for a maximum period of 1,5 years when functioning appropriately. Specific tasks on the project will involve cell culture (maintaining human stem cell lines and differentiation towards cardiomyocytes), cloning, electrophysiology and other routine laboratory techniques (DNA/RNA/protein isolations, immunofluorescence, Western blot etc.). You are expected to maintain a meticulous lab record, execute experiments and analyze data.

Requirements

We seek a highly motivated candidate with a proven track record (at least 2 years) of working as a technician in cell and molecular biology-based research programs. Strong preference will be given to applicants with a demonstrated ability to work independently. Proficiency in mammalian cell culture techniques is mandatory. Experience in working with hESCs/hiPSCs would be an added advantage. Excellent spoken and written English skills are required. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others in a collaborative environment is also important.  

Conditions of employment

We offer a salary conforming to the Collective Labor Agreement for University Medical Centers in the Netherlands (CAO UMC) with a range of added fringe benefits, such as an annual bonus of 8.3%, holiday allowance, collective discounted rates for a number of insurances, an attractive bicycle scheme and/or public transport allowance, and free parking. You will be employed by the AMC Medical Research BV.

The maximum fulltime (36 hours/week) gross monthly salary amounts € 2.996,-- (scale 7) or € 3.391,-- (scale 8), depending on education and work experience.

Department

The department of Medical Biology of the Academic Medical Center, Amsterdam offers a technician position, funded by a ‘ZonMW Meer Kennis met Minder Dieren’ (ZonMW-MKMD) grant to Dr. Harsha Devalla and Prof. Dr. Vincent Christoffels. The project will develop and validate cellular models of atrial fibrillation using human pluripotent stem cells. Our ultimate goal is to develop highthroughput models for drug screening and disease modeling.
