As a PhD candidate you will work on a project within the department of Analytical Chemistry. The PhD project is conducted together with Teijin, and aims at developing measurements and sensors of professionals in high-risk environments (Fire Department, Police) to measure, assess and manage their safety in real-time during operations, and on a higher level throughout their career. This requires implementation of smart sensors on their professional equipment and local measurements of the worker’s health and their environment. The project will primarily involve the development of advanced data analysis methods, to be embedded in new robust analysis technology solutions. The candidate will closely interact with the researchers, companies and professionals involved in the project. We expect a strongly result-oriented attitude from the candidate to provide increased safety to high-risk professionals, together with a well-developed academic curiosity to bring analytical technology to the next level.

Faculty of Science
The Department of Analytical Chemistry is the largest academic research group exclusively studying Chemometrics, the ‘chemical data science’. We aim to enhance or increase the functionality of Analytical Technology through quantitative data analysis methodology. The department currently consists of 5-9 PhD students, three Post Doctoral Researchers and several guest researchers from academia and industry. In our research we work closely together with partners from industry and governmental bodies in the application of our chemometrics methods to the quantitative analysis of Health, the Environment and important industrial chemical processes. Working with us means getting into contact with many different researchers and other professionals from very different fields. The Total Safety Solution fits into our portfolio of several academic research projects in fields of considerable societal relevance.
