The Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is looking for a

BIM teacher (0,5 FTE)
at the chair of Information Systems in the Built Environment (ISBE) of the department of Built Environment

The Department of Built Environment of Eindhoven University of Technology offers education in a wide range of specializations in the field of architecture, building and planning. The emphasis is placed on the integration of design, science and technology. Graduates find their way into various professional groups, including architectural design, urban design and planning, building physics, structural design, and real estate management. In addition the department is also a research institute, where high-quality research related to building is carried out in various laboratories. The department comprises over 2000 students, 100 PhD students, 200 permanent and 40 temporary staff members. The yearly budget is 15 million Euro.

Professional field Building Information Modelling (BIM)

The chair of Information Systems in the Built Environment (ISBE) has a long track record in BIM research and BIM teaching. Lately BIM is widely adopted is one of key drivers for innovation in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operation (AECO) sector. TU/e BIM teaching comprises both the data modelling as well as the process modelling of building projects. We have a strong focus on standardization of BIM communication protocols to support interoperability between systems and parties. BIM teaching is closely connected to research by ISBE staff members and AECO industry partners. BIM expertise learned at the TU/e is highly acknowledged in the academic field and in the professional field. Due fast developments the BIM courses are updated every year following the latest insights and technologies.

The ISBE chair belongs to the unit Urban Systems and Real Estate (USRE). The USRE unit is developing groundbreaking decision-support systems that focus on particular types of problems in architecture, urban planning and real estate management. Recently the unit is strongly involved on the topic of Smart Cities which gives opportunities to investigate new developments such as Open data platforms, Data mining, Sensor networks, etc.



Position within the unit Urban Systems and Real Estate, Department of the Built Environment

The unit Urban Systems and Real Estate contains 3 chairs: Real Estate Management & Development, Urban Planning and Information Systems. The present position of BIM teacher will be situated in the Information Systems chair.

Functie-eisen

Teaching activities

The BIM teacher is responsible for the contribution to various courses offered by the USRE unit in the BSc and MSc programs in the Department of the Built Environment. He/she will support in teaching bachelor and master students. More specifically he/she will contribute to the following courses:
  • Systems Engineering
  • Collaborative design
  • Fundamentals in BIM

  • Finally, the BIM teacher will play an important role in supervising graduate students with an interest in a BIM related subjects. Graduation projects are often executed in cooperation with companies from the AECO industries, but could also be more academically oriented.



    Future expectations

    The BIM teacher is expected to collaborate with a high-ranked group of scientists. He/she should be motivated to be involved in cutting-edge education and research with enthusiastic students.



    Profile of the BIM teacher

    The BIM teacher has to meet the following requirements:
  • a Master in a relevant Engineering discipline, such as Construction Management and Engineering;
  • experience in BIM projects;
  • information system design and development skills;
  • knowledge about state-of-the-art BIM technology and  standards
  • the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams;
  • creativity and strong communication skills;
  • the ability to support Master students;
  • teaching skills.

    What we offer

    We offer a temporary position for two years with possibility of a tenured (permanent) position after those two years under the condition of a positive assessment. Therefore we offer a career and possibilities for a personal development program. Based on performance indicators set out by the department of Built Environment, a decision will be made at the end of the first 1.5 years whether to offer a permanent position, after a positive assessment in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

    Gross monthly salaries are in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement of the Dutch Universities (CAO NU). Salary is based on knowledge and experience and is at least € 2.552 (salary scale 10, salary number 0) up to a max. of € 4.691 gross per month (salary scale 11, salary number 11) at a fulltime appointment; plus 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% end-of-year allowance.
