Within the Neurobiology group, a PhD research position is currently available. This position is embedded in a large international project funded by an Innovative Medicine Initiative (IMI) grant from the European Union. You will work in collaboration with project partners from 48 national and international academic and industrial organizations. The PhD project aims at understanding the role of early life sensory cortex development and sensory processing deficits in autism spectrum disorders using mouse studies. You will perform research to study the relationship between early life sensory cortex development, sensory information processing, and behaviour using molecular, genetic and integrated sensory evoked EEG and behavioural analyses in mice.

Requirements

You have:
• a MSc degree in biology or biomedical science, with relevant experience in the areas of molecular biology, behavioural neuroscience and EEG experiments and analyses
• experience with complex data analyses methods
• obtained an article 9 certificate
• a good command of English (oral and written)
• excellent communication skills (indicated by the ability to write scientific papers and deliver presentations).

Conditions of employment

The University of Groningen offers a salary of € 2,266 gross per month in the first year, up to € 2,897 gross per month in the final year, based on a full-time position. The position is a temporary position of one year with the option of a three-year extension, conditional on sufficient progress in the first year to indicate that successful completion of the PhD thesis within the next three years is expected. A PhD training programme is part of the agreement and you will be enrolled in the Groningen Graduate School of Science and Engineering.
