The USSE has vacancies for two lecturer positions (each for 1 FTE) for the chemistry practicals linked to different programmes, mainly the bachelor and master degrees in chemistry. The teaching activities will include:
- supervision of chemistry practicals; the lecturer will be responsible for the supervision of student groups, the safety instructions, and the grading of the corresponding reports
- renovation of the experiments for the practicals; the lecturer is expected to keep up with new practical concepts and to investigate the possibility to extend the current portfolio with new experiments based on recent literature
- supervision of bachelor and master theses
- teaching (a part of) different course units; depending on the necessity for a specific course and on the candidate’s interests and background, the lecturer may be involved in teaching (a part of) a course unit.

Requirements

The successful candidates will have the following qualifications:
• at least a master degree (and preferably a PhD degree) in chemistry or closely related disciplines
• experience in teaching on an academic level
• experience with different teaching methods, such as lectures, tutorials, problem-based learning
• enthusiastic team player with a proactive and flexible attitude
• excellent knowledge of written and spoken English
• excellent communication skills
• willingness to obtain the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ).

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 12 months.

The University of Groningen offers a lecturing position (UFO job profile Teacher 4/3), depending on qualifications and work experience, with a salary from a minimum of € 2,640 (salary scale 10 Dutch Universities) up to a maximum of € 4,852 (salary scale 11) gross per month for a full-time position. In addition to the primary salary, the University offers 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%. This position is first temporary for a period of one year. After the first year indefinite extension is possible after a positive evaluation.

The preferred starting date is not later than 1 January 2019.
