Job description

Within PERICO, two PhD positions are available in the laboratory of Prof Ida van der Klei (Molecular Cell Biology group, Groningen Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnology Institute).
The project titles are:
ESR1: Peroxisome vacuole contact sites in yeast
ESR2: Yeast peroxisomal transporters and pore forming proteins.

Requirements

• competence in written and spoken English
• candidates have to be in their first four years of their research career and not yet be awarded with a doctoral degree at the time of recruitment
• open for all nationalities. In compliance with the EU mobility rule, at the time of recruitment, you must not have lived or worked for more than 12 months in the country of your future host organization in the 3 years immediately prior to the start of the PhD project
• only applications that are complete, in English and submitted before the deadline will be considered eligible.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 48 months.

The University of Groningen offers a salary of € 2,266 gross per month in the first year up to a maximum of € 2,897 gross per month in the fourth and final year, based on a full-time position, excluding a 8% holiday allowance and a 8.3% end-of-the-year bonus. The position is limited to a period of 4 years. The first year constitutes a probationary period, with an evaluation of the candidate’s performance after 9 months. The objective of this evaluation is to establish whether the candidate will be able to finish a PhD thesis in the remaining three years. If the performance evaluation is positive, the candidate’s contract will be extended by another 3 years, for a total of 4 years.

This year the EU-funded Innovative Training Network “PERoxisome Interactions and COmmunication” (PERICO) will start that will encompass fifteen PhD projects and which will be coordinated by the University of Groningen. PERICO fosters education of Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) in a project to uncover how a central metabolic organelle, the peroxisome, participates in controlling cellular metabolism.
