Job description

The Laboratory of Biochemistry at Wageningen University & Research studies how proteins control biological processes, with an emphasis on function in the living cell. We maintain a research infrastructure to support our research program - encompassing mass spectrometry, advanced microscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy. We integrate biochemical approaches with cell biological, evolutionary, bioinformatic, genetic and computational strategies to address biological questions. To further strengthen our group and support our research and education activities, the Laboratory of Biochemistry invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in the area of Functional Proteomics. The successful candidate is expected to develop a new research team, and to integrate (e.g. Mass-Spectrometry-based) Proteomics approaches with complementary strategies to address important biological problems in genetically tractable model organisms.

You will:
  • develop an independent research team and research area;
  • attract national and international research funding;
  • supervise PhD students and BSc and MSc thesis projects;
  • contribute to teaching BSc and/or MSc courses in the field of Biochemistry;
  • collaborate on proteomics projects with colleagues both within the Laboratory of Biochemistry and at Wageningen University & Research.

Requirements

As an Assistant Professor you are an ambitious and enthusiastic scientist and a team player, devoted to research and education, with clear focus on with a strong background in Functional Proteomics.

Further, you have:
  • a PhD degree in Biochemistry or a related discipline and at least 2 years of post-doctoral research experience;
  • international experience, preferably through PhD or post-doc abroad;
  • experience and proven success in the acquisition of independent research funding;
  • excellent communication skills;
  • enthusiasm for teaching and working with (under)graduate students;
  • proven research excellence, as demonstrated by publications in top journals;
  • experience in studying protein interactions and/or post-translational modifications, preferably using mass-spectrometry approaches.

Conditions of employment

We offer an appointment as Assistant Professor. Within the tenure-track, you can develop into a full professor with your own research domain within the Laboratory of Biochemistry. You will become part of a vibrant, active group and you can contribute to developing a strong and stimulating research and teaching environment. We are strongly committed to training and coaching you developing towards scientific and personal leadership. We offer an attractive start-up package with associated positions, depending on the candidate's profile.

We offer a temporary contract for 38 hours per week, which can lead to a permanent employment contract. Working hours are flexible.
For the position of Assistant Professor, we offer a gross salary of € 3545,- to € 5513,- per month, depending on expertise and experience (scale 11 - 12 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities), including 8% holiday pay and 8.3% end of year remuneration, the ABP Pension scheme and training and career development.
