The Bioprocess Engineering research group aims to develop novel concepts for compact, clean and efficient biotechnological manufacturing processes, starting from the fundamental and quantitative knowledge of biomolecular mechanisms, and integrating advanced technological, theoretical and experimental methods. Three directions can be distinguished: high-throughput measurement and modelling of biomolecular properties (1), equipment development (2), and bioprocess integration (3), which are applied to biopharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, bio-based chemicals, and bio-energy.
To further strengthen the Bioprocess Engineering group, an assistant professor is sought with a background in bioprocess engineering and fermentation/cell culture technology. We are especially looking for a colleague with interest in design, analysis and scalability of reactors, process control and process integration for modern industrial applications of biotechnology. He/she will initiate new research lines in the area of bio(pharmaceutical) reactor engineering, with emphasis on (up)scaling of microbial and mammalian cell cultures, process analytical techniques, and/or reactor modelling.
The new staff member will teach and develop courses related to bioprocess engineering in the BSc programmes Life Science and Technology (LST) and Molecular Science and Technology, and in the MSc programmes Life Science and Technology and Chemical Engineering. (S)he will supervise BSc, MSc, PDEng, and PhD students during their research projects.
The ideal candidate has:
Fixed-term contract: Tenure Track.
At the start of the tenure-track you will be appointed as Assistant Professor for the duration of six years. Section leader, department leaders and you will agree upon expected performance and (soft) skills. You will receive formal feedback on performance and skills during annual assessment meetings and the mid-term evaluation. If the performance and skills are evaluated positively at the end of the tenure track, you will be appointed in a permanent Assistant Professor position.
