Job description

In a challenging career trajectory you are, as Associate or Assistant Professor in the field of Global Nutrition for Heath in tenure track, responsible for the organization, implementation and coordination of new research activities in the field of public health nutrition, maternal and childhood nutrition, or associated fields relevant for nutrition and health especially in Low and Middle Income Countries, as well as building up/expanding a leading international position. We are especially interested in candidates who can support both ecological as well as physiological oriented research themes.
In this position you will also be motivating and teaching BSc, MSc and PhD students and develop new courses. Training and coaching is provided for the Assistant/Associate Professor to accomplish this.

Requirements

As Associate or Assistant Professor you are an ambitious and enthusiastic scientist and a team player, devoted to research and education aspects of global nutrition and health, preferably public health and or maternal and child nutrition.

You also have:
  • a successfully completed academic study (MSc level; recognized in The Netherlands) in human nutrition, health sciences or equivalent;
  • a PhD in public health nutrition, epidemiology, nutritional physiology or equivalent;
  • knowledge and expertise in doing research in low and middle-income countries, on maternal and child nutrition related fields and impact evaluations;
  • ample experience, i.e. more than five year, with management of complex or integrated projects, and experience with projects in Asia and Africa is an advantage;
  • proven acquisition of research funding;
  • having a network in the interdisciplinary (international) research and development world is an advantage;
  • excellent communication skills;
  • didactic qualities and enthusiasm for teaching and working with students.

We offer a temporary contract with the possibility of extension, for 38 hours per week. Gross salary: from € 3545,- to € 5978,- (Scale 11 to Scale 13), based on a full time employment and dependent on expertise and experience.

The chair Nutrition and Health over the Lifecourse is part of the Division of Human Nutrition and Health, which is active in the field of BSc, MSc and PhD education and research at Wageningen University since 1969. The focus of the chair is currently under review and will shift towards Global Nutrition. Aim is to understand the causal pathways of malnutrition in all its forms (under- and overnutrition), and to prevent malnutrition at the European and LMIC level by studying the effects of nutrition sensitive and nutrition specific interventions. The remit consist of two entries, an ecological one, focusing on sustainable food systems and healthy diets, and a physiological one, focusing on the etiology of malnutrition in the lifecycle. Expertise in dietary assessment innovations is an additional focus, supporting both themes. The group currently consist of two full professors, two associate professors and one assistant professor. In addition, several experts from outside are working with the group on part-time basis, and five post-doctoral fellows and 30 PhD students, mostly from outside the Netherlands, are included. The atmosphere can be characterized as informal, and the team is very committed.
