Job description

We are looking for an internationally oriented person with an excellent track record in research on French and Francophone literature, and with a native or near-native level of French.

  • Teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, both lectures and seminars, in the Bachelor French Language and Culture, the Master Literary Studies, and possibly also in other programs, e.g. in the Bachelor International Studies;
  • Supervising BA and MA theses;
  • Participating in the development and implementation of education innovations – also in digital form;
  • Playing an active role in recruiting Dutch and international students by contributing to information days, orientation and information sessions;
  • Contributing to administrative and management duties within the program and LUCAS;
  • Supervising PhD candidates;
  • Doing research in the field of French Literature and Culture within one of the research programs of LUCAS;
  • Acquisition of project funding at the national, European and international level (NWO, Horizon 2020 etc.).

Requirements

  • A PhD-degree in the field of French Literature/Culture and a publication record that is commensurate with career stage;
  • Research profile that fits within LUCAS (https://www.universiteitleiden.nl/en/humanities/centre-for-the-arts-in-society/research);
  • Demonstrable outstanding teaching skills (demonstrated by teaching evaluations, etc.) and experience with educational innovations;
  • Upon appointment, depending on experience to date, the University Lecturer may be required to enter a nationally standardized tertiary teaching skills certification trajectory (UTQ or University Teaching Qualification);
  • An extensive national and international network in the field of French Literature/Culture;
  • Demonstrable experience with the application and acquisition of external project funding;
  • Excellent command of Dutch, French and English;
  • Flexible, excellent communication skills, team player.

Conditions of employment

Initially the employee will receive a one-year contract, with the possibility of renewal based on need, funding and performance. Starting date 15 August 2019. Part-time employment is possible. 
Salary range from €3,545 to €4,852 gross per month for a fulltime appointment depending on prior education and working experience (pay scale 11, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
