Project Description

The high-level goal of DEPICT is to develop a new type of monitoring for Industrial IoT systems. Our final goal is to leverage and -add intelligence to- deep-packet inspection (DPI) tools to extract knowledge of an Industrial IoT network and build -actionability-, that is, the ability to act upon present (or future) threats, allowing for, (1) Corrective measures, facilitating early incident response by security analysts without a deep knowledge of the industrial processes, and control-room operators without deep knowledge on cyber-security, so they can take care of the first steps of the incident response, thereby greatly increasing the overall resilience of the system, and (2) Preventive measures, performing asset-threat mapping by leveraging deep-packet inspection of industrial networks.

DEPICT is carried out in cooperation of the University of Texas at Dallas.

Conversion to a PostDoc position may also be considered for suitable candidates.



Tasks

carry out research within the project, in cooperation with the other parties involved;

develop and maintain the tools required by the project, in cooperation with the other parties involved;

contribute to the writing of scientific papers;

finish the PhD thesis within four years;

contribute to the teaching activities of the Security group.

We are looking for a candidate who meets the following requirements:

an MSc in Computer Science, Mathematics or closely related field with above average results (applicants for a PostDoc position must have a PhD degree);

a research oriented attitude;

interest in computer security;

knowledge of Java;

knowledge of formal methods and computer networks is a plus;

good communicative skills in English, both written and oral;

ability to work in a team, collaborate with the industrial partners;

We offer:

a full-time employment as a PhD-candidate for a period of 4 years;

a gross salary between € 2.266,00 per month (first year) and € 2.897,00 per month (last year);

annually 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end of year allowance;
