The Faculty of Humanities, Leiden Institute for Area Studies (LIAS) invites applications for a Lectureship in Turkish

Job description

  • Teaching Turkish language courses from beginners' to advanced levels at undergraduate and graduate levels;
  • Taking an active role in curriculum development;
  • Thesis supervision, if applicable;
  • Administrative duties;
  • Representation of the field to local and external audiences.

Requirements

  • A PhD degree is preferred, ideally in teaching Turkish as a foreign language or equivalent, e.g. applied linguistics, foreign language pedagogy or second language acquisition with a specialization in Turkish; candidates with an MA degree in these areas and considerable experience in teaching Turkish to speakers of other languages are also encouraged to apply;
  • Commitment to and expertise in high-quality, multi-media and multi-mode teaching experience;
  • Native or near native proficiency in Turkish;
  • Experience in teaching Turkish as a second language at university level;
  • Ability to teach content courses in Middle East Studies (culture, history, linguistics, society, etc) may be an advantage;
  • An excellent command of English. Most MA programs at Leiden University are taught in English, and English is used in BA teaching as well.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 2 years.

We offer a part-time, for 30,4 hours per week, fixed-term post for the period of two years starting August 1 2019 until July 31 2021 inclusive. Salary range from €2709.- to €4978.- gross per month based on fulltime employment (pay scale 10-11, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities), depending on education and work experience.
