The candidate is expected to provide for teaching and research in the domain of Greek and Hellenistic Archaeology & Classical Art History, preferably with a focus on architecture and sculpture. The candidate is expected to teach two Bachelor courses (or their equivalent distributed over more courses in combination with other lecturers) on a yearly basis: one with the Faculty of Archaeology (The Archaeology of the Greek Mediterranean) and one with the Faculty of Humanities for students in Classics and students in Art History. The Byvanck fellow is furthermore expected to supervise theses and participate in the yearly excursion to the Mediterranean.

The remainder of the time is devoted to research and the (further) development of an individual research line at the intersection of Classical Archaeology, Art History and Classics. The candidate is supposed to function as a liaison between these three Leiden research groups and to stimulate their intersection.

We are offering a stimulating intellectual environment for an ambitious PostDoc researcher to develop his/her teaching and research skills in his/her own domain as an important stepping-stone towards a further career.

We are looking for a candidate with original ideas that has:

• A PhD degree in Classical Archaeology, Art History or Classics;
• Proven didactic qualities and interests;
• A promising interdisciplinary research profile at the intersection of Classical Archaeology, Art History and Classics;
• A research project for the complimentary 0,5 fte or the willingness to develop and apply for such a project with NWO or the ERC.

The successful applicant will receive a three-year contract, with the possibility of an extension of one year. The salary is in accordance with the collective salary agreement of the Association of Dutch Universities (CAO) and depending on qualifications and experience, the gross monthly salary is € 2,709 (scale 10) to € 4,978 (scale 11) based on a full-time appointment.
