Job description

As a structural engineer and project manager for structural maintenance, every day is different. On the one hand, you are involved in organising larger and smaller maintenance projects on the WUR buildings, on the other hand, as the 'construction pioneer', you are the architectural specialist in the department and therefore a source of information for your fellow project leaders and project managers, and inspector of architectural designs. As an architect, you are part of the MJOP team. You check maintenance inspections drawn up by third parties, also have consultants look at it where necessary and also manage a large part of the structural maintenance.

The maintenance projects you have carried out include roof replacements, improving insulation, painting, replacing facades, floor finishes, sheds and bicycle sheds, etc.

You do this for the buildings on campus, but also for the buildings elsewhere in the Netherlands by using advisors 'remotely but with knowledge'.

Your tasks and responsibilities):
  • You coordinate and supervise maintenance projects and carry out the financial administration;
  • You interact with external advisors, internal users and other BHM initiators;
  • You ensure that the architectural part of the General Technical Program of Requirements remains up to date;
  • You check designs of all kinds of projects from your fellow project managers;
  • You contribute to keeping the MJOP up to date, and are part of the MJOP team;
  • As an internal consultant/sparring partner, you are involved in the planning, advice and guidance of hull maintenance.

Your team
You will be working in a very nice and collegial team of 23 project leaders, technical building managers, an asset manager and contract management. The team is divided into specialisms, and one initiator of each of them has been appointed. You will be the 'driving force for construction'. The atmosphere is super good; there is laughter and an open and collegial atmosphere; People help each other and you are allowed to make mistakes. But of course there is also a lot of hard work.

Requirements

Your most important quality is your architectural knowledge. You know everything about architectural detailing and (effects on) architectural maintenance. Because you have to deal with many stakeholders, you are a strong communicator and you like a dynamic environment.

You also have:
  • At least a completed HTS education in Architecture, or a completed MTS education with >10 years of experience in construction;
  • At least 5 years of experience in the field of structural maintenance in non-residential buildings;
  • You have a command of Dutch verbally and in writing;
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Flexible and creative in coming up with solutions and also planned and structured in leading your projects.

Dutch is spoken within Real Estate & Housing and, because it is a position in which you manage many contractors and consultants where communication is very important, it is therefore required to speak and write Dutch well.

In our international working environment, communication is sometimes done in English. However, this position does not require an English language level.

You can see that there are plenty of challenges for you. These challenges can also be seen as development opportunities. So if you do not yet have the track record required in the vacancy, but do have solid work experience, we would also like to invite you to apply.

This is where you will work

You will be working at the Facilities Department of the WUR, Real Estate & Housing.

You will be part of the Building & Housing Management section (BHM, approx. 23 FTE) that is responsible for the design, elaboration and execution of all construction and maintenance work on the WUR buildings and installations (650,000 m2) on the Campus in Wageningen and at the decentralised locations throughout the Netherlands. Our maintenance budget is approximately € 18 million per year; projects another approximately € 60 million. So plenty of challenges! We do this with the entire BHM team.
