Job description

“Creating positive societal impact: the Erasmian way” is central in the strategy of the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR).

As our new Erasmus Centre for Data Analytics (ECDA) data analytics support engineer, ideally you start on August 1 2023. In this role, you support ECDA researchers and students with data- and analytics-related questions. You work with our team as well as internal and external colleagues and stakeholders.

ECDA facilitates Erasmus University Rotterdam and its public and private partner organisations in preparing society for a data-driven future, both hands-on and human-centred, towards a sustainable world. We bring together academic experts, organisation leaders and students, and we offer access to world-class education and research, meaningful know-how, data analytics tools and a relevant network to societal and business organisations. This boosts a future for the use of data analytics and AI in business and society and increases the benefits of digital transformation.

ECDA:
  • Facilitates hands-on education to students and executives.
  • Organises exclusive events, seminars and summits.
  • Offers a learning community that includes public and private organisations, academia and students.
  • Facilitates multi-disciplinary research and innovation based on over 25 expert practices on data analytics, digitalisation, and AI.
  • Offers infrastructure for data, analytics and AI in collaboration with technology partners.

Your main tasks
  • Support researchers with their data analytics and data science needs.
  • Collect, analyse and interpret data from various internal and external sources to provide insights and recommendations to the researchers.
  • Stay current with the latest data analysis tools and techniques and recommend and implement new technologies as appropriate.
  • Communicate findings internally and building thought leadership in the field.
  • Identify and analyse problem areas in data services offered by ECDA and develop proposals for improvement.
  • Periodically evaluate effectiveness and efficiency of ECDA activities based on evidence and management information and optimise those with colleagues.
  • Develop processes that contribute to the quality of ECDA services.
  • Participate in projects and working groups in ECDA.

Requirements

  • Master degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in data analysis, data modelling and machine learning
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R or another programming language commonly used for data analytics
  • Experience with database management systems and SQL
  • Experience with data visualisation tools such as Tableau and Power BI
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in a team
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • Excellent organisational abilities and a methodical approach to work

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 12 months with possibilty to extend.

We are offering a contract for 0.8 to 1.0 FTE, initially for a year, with the prospect of an extension based on good performance.

Salary is subject to training and experience and may vary from a minimum of € 2,960 (scale 10 CAO NU) gross per month and up to a maximum of € 5,439 gross per month (scale 11 CAO NU), based on a full-time contract of 38 hours.
