Do you like to work on a self-developed research project? The Groningen Graduate School of Law offers 6 PhD scholarships at which you will be working within an inspiring research environment at one of the faculty's research programmes: https://www.rug.nl/rechten/onderzoek/groningen-centre-for-law-and-governance/onderzoeksprogrammas.

During a four-year PhD trajectory your focus as a PhD student is to conduct supervised scientific research. You are working on a self-developed research proposal that will result in a PhD thesis.

The GGSL offers a training programme to support that research and your personal development. You will receive a PhD training fund to participate in (international) conferences and workshops and seminars.

We expect candidates to have completed a university study, preferably in law and/or in a field that is relevant for carrying out the research proposal. The candidate should develop the research proposal him/herself. If the candidate has not completed a research master's degree, this research proposal must demonstrate an interdisciplinary character.

Candidates must demonstrate good academic research and writing skills, for example through academic publications or the quality of the master's thesis. In addition, they should be able to plan and carry out their activities independently.

Current master's students, who will finish their master's degree this summer, can apply. Please note that the completion of a master's degree is a formal requirement for the award of the scholarship.

The offer concerns a scholarship for the duration of 4 years on the basis of the PhD Scholarship Programme. An annual evaluation takes place to see if the results are sufficient to obtain a PhD within the agreed time frame. The programme should be concluded with a dissertation, whether or not in the form of articles.
