Job description

We are looking for a Data Engineer who will participate in and learn from national and regional initiatives on health data platforms that improve health and healthcare, like CumuluZ and Health-RI. Will you join our team?

As a Data Engineer you will focus on further development of the OpenPlanet health data platform and data sharing with Radboudumc, on the definition, implementation and monitoring of processes and tools for cleaning, organizing, structuring, mapping and enriching a variety of data including healthcare and sensor-derived lifestyle data, with the vision to connect this data through our new OpenPlanet infrastructure and ensure FAIRness of this data.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team within the Radboudumc Information Management department and led by the Radboudumc Chief Science Information Officer (CSIO), dr. Arnoud van der Maas, and interface with experts at Radboud University and Radboudumc. Your position will be held within team Data, which is part of the department of Information Management of the Radboudumc. Team Data consists of 12 people with different (highly specific) expertise, e.g., data integration specialists, data engineers and data scientists. All expertises mentioned require a certain amount of software developing skills. Team Data is responsible for the seamless integration of data exchange between task specific applications (interfaces), the reuse of data for multiple purposes and supplying the skills and consultancy with regard to data science initiatives within the Radboudumc.

You will contribute to initiatives aiming at data sharing outside the institution and at reusing existing healthcare data. You will have a central role in the data 'wrangling' (structuring, cleaning, enriching, validating, mapping and format transformation) process for data reuse, sharing and harmonization based on a set of standard data models and terminologies. You will help design and contribute to the labelling/annotation of the integrated data as needed.

In addition, you will collaborate in the design, development and local installation of OpenPlanet components enabling data sharing with Radboudumc and help with their testing in close collaboration with the OpenPlanet software development team. You will be a member of the central architecture team contributing to the integration of existing data sources and data platforms.

Tasks and responsibilities
  • Connection between the OpenPlanet infrastructure and healthcare data at Radboudumc.
  • Provide expertise and offer support in preparing data sources for downstream use.
  • Work in multi-disciplinary teams from OnePlanet and Radboudumc and observe where interests can be aligned.
  • Keep an eye out for opportunities and possibilities around data utilization and valorization.
  • Contribute to OnePlanet communication (presentations, advising on the content of OnePlanet communication on data infrastructures).

Requirements

  • MSc (PhD preferred) in a data engineering-related field (e.g., computer science, biomedical informatics).
  • Demonstrated experience in Procedural Programming and Object Oriented Programming.
  • Experience in data wrangling (data structuring, cleaning, enriching, validating, mapping and format transformation.
  • Experience with healthcare data or background in medical informatics, bioinformatics, medicine, biology, or a similar life sciences education.
  • Affinity with translational research, innovation and development in personalized and preventive health.
  • Good ability to work in multi-partner collaborations.
  • You can communicate effectively with people at various management levels.
  • A very strong sense of integrity, ethics and sound moral compass are essential considering you will be working with personal data.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English and in Dutch are a must.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year with a possible extension.

We will appoint a Data Engineer for 1 year. After 1 year, your performance will be evaluated. If the evaluation is positive, there is a possibility to extend the contract. Salary depends on knowledge and experience. The scaling will be in scale 10 (between min. € 3.047 and max. € 4.800) or in scale 11 (between min. € 4.080 and max. € 5.584) gross per month on the basis of full employment.
