Job description

We are looking for a scholar with a research focus on the technical and socio-economic aspects of Security, Risk and Resilience Management. Your research may concern the development of methods and techniques to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of enterprise systems and information assets. Your research helps managers/policymakers/individuals to make informed decisions on security and risk mitigation strategies, and benefits the alignment between security and enterprise architectures. You not only consider the technical aspects of security, but also its strategic, tactical and operational implications, at different levels: individuals, organizations, and society at large. As such, you also contribute to a strategy for a secure and resilient digital society. You are versed in using both quantitative (e.g., development of security/resilience metrics) and qualitative research approaches (e.g., crafting interventions to counter social engineering cyber threats, scenario-based resilience evaluation, etc.).

We challenge conventional scholarly wisdom! Are you looking for a forward-thinking team-based environment to expand the borders of your home subject area and develop cross-disciplinary expertise? Join our team and strive to make a significant impact on science and society.

You contribute to research, teaching, and knowledge valorization. You will

  • (co-)teach, develop and coordinate courses in our Bachelor and Master programs of Business & IT and International Business Administration;
  • guide students from these programs in their graduation assignment;
  • develop expertise in novel data driven research methods and work jointly with BMS lab (a lab that develops expertise in using industrial and behavioural research datasets for research);
  • contribute towards the supervision of PhD students.

Requirements

  • show vision and ambitious drive (seeing opportunities and possibilities, showing ambition);
  • have knowledge of and experience with quantitative and qualitative analysis of security, risk and resilience with applications to business domains;
  • hold a PhD degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field and have experience in research, which is proven by publications in reputable academic journals, presentations in international scientific conferences, and other academic activities;
  • conduct (fundamental and applied) research within a multidisciplinary environment;
  • are active in networks for acquiring research funding, and have proven experience in working closely with companies and government agencies;
  • show situational leadership while collaborating in past research projects or in supervising PhD students;
  • have teaching experience (both lecturing and tutoring) at an internationally accredited university;
  • possess good communication skills and an excellent command of English;
  • possess a (equivalent of) University Teaching Qualification certificate, or be willing to obtain this, and have a real passion for, and the ambition to become a creative and effective teacher.

Conditions of employment

  • We offer a permanent position (1.0 FTE) with a one-year probationary period (formally a 1-year contract with the prospect of a permanent contract).
  • The starting salary, depending on your experience, ranges between € 5.506 to € 6.702 gross per month (in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities), based on the job profile Associate Professor.
