Job description

Utrecht University Library is looking for a new colleague to advise researchers on open access publishing. Do you combine organisational talent with a heart for open science? Can you put yourself in the perspective of an academic researcher? If you want to help attain the ambitious goals of Utrecht University (UU) as part of a dedicated team, we would like to meet you!

Academic education and research are rapidly changing, also at UU. Open science and the ever-increasing digitisation are crucial in this respect. UU has the ambition to be a pioneer in the field of open science and, among other things, to move towards 100% open access publications as soon as possible.

The University Library contributes to UU's strategic agenda: with open outlook, open attitude and open science, the university is working on tomorrow's solutions. Besides access to scientific literature, we offer advice, training, workshops, and support to aid scientific education and research in all faculties. We work in a result-oriented way. You have a lot of freedom to organise and shape your work in collaboration with your colleagues and the team.

Job description
Together with enthusiastic colleagues, you support researchers in publishing their scientific work open access. You have good knowledge of the field of open infrastructures and open access publishers supporting the open publication process or would like to deepen this knowledge. You give presentations and workshops on open access (policy). You answer questions on open access and open science-related topics. You maintain a relevant network inside and outside the university to collaborate on the ambitious open science goals.

You will work in a dynamic, inspiring and knowledge-rich working environment. Due to your interest or experience in academia and your affinity with the open science goals, you follow trends and developments in the field of (open) academic research and education and see where opportunities lie to realise goals. You turn your own or team members' promising ideas into concrete actions and enjoy working with others to implement a plan from start to finish.

Requirements

This position requires effective communication skills and personal qualities such as: customer-oriented, analytical, networker and team player. Furthermore, you recognise yourself in the following points:

  • You have a Master's degree and preferably at least three years of relevant work experience.
  • You have an affinity with scientific education and research and with scientific publishing in particular.
  • You have good advisory skills and know how to represent our organisation in networks inside and outside UU.
  • You are great at transferring and sharing knowledge, both to groups and individuals.
  • You are result driven, are proactive and strong at organising so you have a knack for seeing opportunities and knowing how to convert this insight into concrete plans.
  • You can keep a good overview of various areas of interest, quickly master new material and know how to implement this in your own work.

Furthermore, you have an excellent command of English (at least C1 level); for international candidates, we require a minimum command of Dutch (B2 level).

Conditions of employment

We offer a temporary position (0.8 FTE) for one year in an international working environment. After positive evaluation, this can be turned into a permanent position. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience  - ranges between €2,960 and €4,670 (scale 10 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year.

In addition, Utrecht University offers excellent secondary conditions, including an attractive retirement scheme, (partly paid) parental leave and flexible employment conditions (multiple choice model). For more information, please visit working at Utrecht University.
