Job description

We are seeking a motivated research technician to join our collaborative research project investigating the molecular underpinnings of frontotemporal dementia. In this project, we will work closely with the Netherlands Brain Bank to obtain post-mortem brain tissue from a specific group of donors. Using advanced immunodetection techniques and spatial transcriptomics, we aim to unravel the molecular mechanisms of frontotemporal dementia. The research technician will be responsible for the main activities related to the handling, processing, and analyzing of post-mortem human brain tissue. On occasion, collecting material at autopsy will be necessary during non-standard working hours.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced research technician to join our team of scientists investigating the molecular underpinnings of frontotemporal dementia. The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor or master’s degree in neuroscience or a related subject and have experience in working in a lab environment , with expertise in immunohistochemistry, molecular techniques such as RNA isolation, and working with post mortem human brain tissue. The candidate will also be able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, and be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Experience working in a lab environment, preferably pathology research or diagnostics.
  • Proficient in immunohistochemistry, and molecular techniques such as RNA isolations. ,
  • Strong interest in human brain research
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Affinity for translational research in neurodegeneration
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to PCR and Western blotting.Experience with data analysis software such as R and Python

Conditions of employment

  • Salary range SAL.7: 2751 tot 3898 euro Gross in full-time employment depending on qualifications and experience).
  • In addition to a good base salary, we offer, amongst others, an 8,3% end-of-year bonus and 8% holiday pay.

  • The temporary employment will be for a period of 2 years, with a required trial period of one year.
