A versatile function for an experienced Grant Advisor with grant writing skills. You support world-leading research teams in developing and writing grant proposals and coach our team of grant writers to help them further develop their skills.

Job description

As an experienced Grant Advisor, you have a leading role in the development of complex national and international grant applications together with the principal investigator. You will be in charge of managing grant preparation from the idea phase to the final submission. You will manage the content of the proposal and the writing process and are responsible for co-writing parts of the proposal and turning it into a successful application. You will become contact person for one of the six strategic themes, functioning as the primary contact for their researchers and management team. You proactively keep yourself up to date with the (scientific) developments in the strategic theme and contact researchers with appropriate funding opportunities. As an experienced member of the team you will also function as a mentor for less experienced team members and assist them in supporting their proposals.

Requirements

You have a thorough knowledge of Dutch and European funded research projects and you are well acquainted with the international and national funding landscape. You have an academic training and preferably a PhD. You have extensive and hands-on experience in the development of complex international grant applications. You have at least 10 years of grant writing/advice experience, and have been in the lead of developing proposals for at least 5 years. In-depth knowledge of Dutch (NWA, KIC, Zwaartekracht) funding schemes is a must.

In your work, you are:

  • a real team player and able to establish and maintain interpersonal relations;
  • a mentor to team members;
  • an excellent writer with advanced editing skills in both English and Dutch;
  • able to prioritize and focus on results;
  • flexible, with good organizational skills; and
  • able to handle multiple projects at once on a tight deadline.

The appointment is a temporary appointment, starting with a one year contract. After the first year, we can offer an indefinite contract, with a temporary finance clause. Positions have been foreseen up to 2031.

Conditions of employment

The maximum salary for this position (32 - 36 hours) is € 6.717,00 gross per month based on full-time employment.

In addition, we offer an annual benefit of 8.3%, holiday allowance, travel expenses and career opportunities. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Cao University Medical Centers (UMC).

Department

The Research Office is part of the Directorate Policy & Strategy of the University Medical Center Utrecht. The Research Office focuses on strategic advice on development, implementation and evaluation of science policy within UMC Utrecht. Team Funding & Support (F&S) is a part of the Research Office and focuses on advising and supporting the development of grant applications (pre-award) and management of awarded projects (post-award). The senior grant advisor will be placed within the pre-award branch of F&S which currently counts 8 colleagues and growing. As member of our pre-award team you will also be assigned to support one or more of the UMCU’s strategic themes.
