Job description

In this project, we study stem cell dynamics in early cancer development. Stem cells are essential for the homeostasis of most adult human tissues.

Previously we identified stem-like cells that fuel the growth and progression of colorectal cancers. We defined the impact of oncogenic mutations on stem cell dynamics in the intestine. We now use this knowledge and associated research tools to improve chemopreventive strategies and to develop novel, and more effective therapies for cancer.

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate PhD student to join our molecular oncology research team. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in cancer biology.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research in molecular oncology, with a particular focus on heritable cancer syndromes.
  • Design and perform experiments to investigate key molecular mechanisms underlying early cancer development.
  • Utilize state-of-the-art disease models (in vitro models, organoid models, in vivo animal models) to study the effects of novel therapies or interventions.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, and contribute to the publication of research findings.
  • Collaborate with fellow researchers and participate in research meetings and discussions.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in the field and integrate new knowledge into ongoing research projects.

Requirements

  • Master degree in biomedical sciences, molecular/cellular biology, or an equivalent thereof, and a clear interest in pre-clinical cancer research.
  • Experience with in vivo animal studies is desirable.
  • Experience with cell culture and molecular biological techniques is essential.
  • The candidate can work independantly.
  • Good organizational skills are important.
  • The candidate should have good communication skills, be flexible, versatile and a good team player.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.

Conditions of employment
