Job description

In this project, we are studying the dynamics of stem cells in early cancer development. Stem cells are essential for maintaining homeostasis in most adult human tissues.

Previously, we identified stem cells that drive the growth and progression of colorectal cancers. We have defined the impact of oncogenic mutations on stem cell dynamics in the intestine. Now, we are leveraging this knowledge and associated research tools to improve chemopreventive strategies and develop new and more effective cancer therapies.

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Researcher to be part of our dynamic research team in the field of molecular oncology. This position offers a great opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research focusing on the dynamics of stem cells in early cancer development and the development of new cancer therapies.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research in the field of molecular oncology, with a special emphasis on hereditary cancer syndromes.
  • Design and conduct experiments to investigate key molecular mechanisms driving early cancer development.
  • Utilize advanced disease models, including in vitro models, organoid models, and in vivo animal models, to study the effectiveness of new therapies and interventions.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data and contribute to research publications.
  • Collaborate closely with fellow researchers and actively participate in research meetings and discussions.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in the field and integrate new knowledge into ongoing research projects.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in biomedical sciences, molecular/cellular biology, or a related field.
  • Strong background and research experience in molecular oncology/biology.
  • Proficiency in cell culture techniques and molecular biology methods.
  • Possession of Article 9 or Article 13f (please mention in your application letter)
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills, flexibility, adaptability, and strong teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Conditions of employment

  • A flying start to your career in research.
  • Work on large-scale and independent research, with motivated colleagues from around the world.
  • A contract for 1 year (12 months) with the intention of extension for another 2 years (24 months).
  • Salary scale 10: € 3,230 to € 5,088 gross per month for a full-time position (depending on education and experience).
  • In addition to a competitive base salary, you will receive an 8.3% year-end bonus and an 8% holiday allowance. Calculate your net salary here.
  • Pension accrual with BeFrank, a modern, transparent, and fairly priced pension plan.
  • Excellent public transportation accessibility and reimbursement of a significant portion of your travel expenses. We also have ample parking facilities at the AMC location, as well as a good bicycle scheme.
