Research Assistant in Cross-border interorganizational cooperation in crime control

The Department of Organisation, Strategy and Entrepreneurship (OSE) and The Institute for Transnational and Euregional cross border cooperation and Mobility (ITEM) of Maastricht University invite applications for two research assistants (0.5fte).

Are you interested in investigating how police forces, public prosecution services, and municipalities in the Belgian/Dutch/German cross-border region collaborate in solving cross-border crime? Would you like to participate in an interdisciplinary NWO funded SSH-M research project on the complexity of cross-border interorganizational cooperation in crime control? Would you like to work with academics from law, socio-political sciences, and organization studies, and professionals from the distinctive public organizations? Are you enthusiastic about research that adopts a mixed/multi method, participatory and grounded theory approach? Then quickly read on.

Research and practice concur that cross-border crime is a persistent and complex problem with serious repercussions for individual and societal security. An important question is how to optimize cross-border collaboration between such different public organizations as the police, the public prosecution services, and municipalities as each have their own (national) legal mandates, political interests, and working practices. Research into interorganizational collaboration between these public sector organizations across the border is still in its infancy and in relation to crime control non-existing. This makes research into this problematic both academically and socially highly relevant and urgent.

As a research assistant at The School of Business and Economics, you will be employed by the most international university of the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:

• The position is graded in scale 7 according to the UFO profile Research Assistant. The maximum starting salary is €2.770 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week).
• An employment contract for a period of 24 months of 0,5 FTE.
• At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
