The main focus of the Environmental Science group of the
Radboud Institute for Biological and Environmental Sciences is on quantifying, understanding and predicting human impacts on the environment, to provide high-quality scientific knowledge that can help the world move towards greater sustainability. To this end, we employ a variety of research methods, including process-based modelling, meta-analyses, field studies and lab work. In our research we cover multiple pressures, species and spatial scales, searching for overarching principles that can ultimately be applied to better underpin environmental management and biodiversity conservation. This enables us to explore and develop wide-ranging sustainable solutions for the environmental challenges the world faces today. RIBES as such is internationally unique, as its research encompasses three major groups of organisms (microorganisms, plants and animals) and spans nearly all levels of biological organisation. In addition to developing world-class research, the institute is dedicated to first-rate education in its Biology BSc, MSc and international PhD programmes.
This postdoctoral position will involve close collaboration with TNO, the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research. TNO aims to ensure that the knowledge it develops, integrates and applies has real social and economic impact. The TNO research group in Economics, part of TNO’s Strategic Business Analysis unit, is one of Europe's leading research groups on the topic of environment, innovation and sustainability. Its main area of competence is economic analysis and modelling based on a vast array of databases, including the global input-output dataset of the EXIOPOL, CREEA and DESIRE research projects (EXIOBASE). Our modelling tools include input-output (IO) and computable general equilibrium (CGE) models, as well as sectoral and macro-econometric models (e.g. EXIOMOD). The Economics team works with clients at national and international levels in the areas of regional innovation and environmental and economic policy impact assessment.
