Job description

What will you be doing?
In our ICT Support Team, you will ensure smooth operations between platform service providers, operational systems, and our developers. Independence is key, as you will be working on deployments, operational testing, and the overall availability and usability of our DANS data services and APIs. Your responsibilities include implementation in the production environment, including integration and security testing. Additionally, you will manage the operational readiness and availability of systems and services, documenting all details in OTAP, including interdependencies.

You will be responsible for developing and implementing a verifiable and testable backup and failover plan for DANS. Furthermore, you will manage the architecture and platforms in close collaboration with our CTO, the Development Team, R&D Engineers, and ICT Support. This involves maintaining a Platform Architecture Roadmap for DANS and working on specifications and standards for VM implementations and deployment, container implementation, and potentially serverless implementation in the future. You will assess, implement, and mitigate security issues, and ensure the use and specifications for encrypted data storage. Additionally, you will handle daily maintenance and support.

Requirements

What will you bring to the table?
We are looking for an enthusiastic professional with a completed HBO or academic degree in Information Management/Information Science, or proven experience and knowledge in this field. You should be comfortable in the world of Linux (RHEL), Ansible, Docker, Terraform/OpenTofu, BASH, and Python.

It's an advantage if you are familiar with hardware, storage, network security, cloud technology, Zabbix, and Kubernetes. You are customer-oriented and highly communicative, capable of translating customer queries into effective ICT solutions. Moreover, you have demonstrable experience with production systems.

You possess proficiency in both the Dutch and English languages, both verbally and in writing. With a goal- and solution-oriented mindset, you can work independently. Additionally, you thrive on teamwork, preferably in teams with academics.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 jaar.

Employer

DANS

DANS is the national expertise center and repository for research data. We help researchers make their data available for reuse. This allows researchers to use the data for new research and makes published research verifiable and reproducible. With almost 300,000 datasets and a staff of fifty, DANS is one of the leading repositories in Europe. DANS is an institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and the Dutch Research Council (NWO).
Working at DANS means working in an informal and international environment where colleagues with diverse backgrounds collaborate to achieve goals, and where people are given the opportunity and the confidence to fulfil their roles and develop as they see fit.
Internally, we apply the same principles of our service: we are accessible, reliable and innovative.
