Job description

Do you want to share and apply your knowledge of statistical methods with the next generation of consumer and marketing science professionals working on a sustainable future? Are you eager to contribute to multidisciplinary education, research, and collaboration, promoting an inclusive and sustainable environment within and outside the academic community? If yes, then we have the perfect opportunity for you!

As a lecturer / assistant professor, you are devoted to, and have the relevant background needed, to educate students in the rigorous application of advanced quantitative research methods and data-analyses techniques, such as conjoint analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and mediation and moderation analyses, for consumer behavior and marketing. The focus of our teaching is to train students to develop and execute theory-driven research projects addressing real-life problems related to marketing and consumer behavior. The successful applicant will make an essential contribution to this focus and will be given the opportunity to attain the Dutch university teaching qualification. We expect applicants to be eager to significantly contribute to the scientific and societal mission of our group in teaching (and research in the case of an assistant professor position).

You will work here
The Marketing and Consumer Behaviour group is one of the leading research and teaching groups in the fields of marketing (research) and consumer behavior related to food, sustainability, and agribusiness. Our group, consisting of a very enthusiastic, passionate, dedicated, and interpersonal team of lecturers and researchers, has a long history of commitment to excellent teaching and empirical research (as also evidenced by our high listings in both teaching and research rankings). Most, if not all, of our teaching and research aims to support the global sustainability goals ( "Science for Impact" ).

We are looking for a person who fits this team and these goals. This means that you are a team player who is motivated to advance quality of the group's education, while at the same time grasping the opportunity to build your own education portfolio. As a quantitative analytical expert you are expected to coordinate and teach research-methods and data-analysis courses for our students. You may also provide methodological support to research projects of other group members (if you're interested in doing so). In addition, when you are applying for the assistant professor level, you are expected to develop your own line of research in which you will be supported through collaboration with other members of our staff.

Your responsibilities
The Marketing and Consumer Behaviour group is unique in certain respects, and we expect our candidates to fit this profile as well. More specifically, just like our current team, you:
  • are multidisciplinary: we support the assumption that multidisciplinary teaching (and research) is necessary to address the current and future societal problems;
  • foster teaching, research and collaboration: We foster a culture of education, research and collaboration, encouraging our faculty and students to engage in cutting-edge collaborative projects;
  • have a sustainability focus: Our university is dedicated to sustainability and environmental stewardship;
  • focus on professional development: We are committed to the professional growth of our employees. We provide ample opportunities for professional development, including workshops, seminars, conferences, and mentorship programs. We also support employees in pursuing further education and acquiring new skills.
  • are open-minded and accept diversity: We embrace diversity and promote an inclusive environment where individuals from all backgrounds and perspectives are valued.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is expected to have the following qualities:
  • a good to excellent knowledge of various research methods and statistical techniques relevant to consumer and marketing science (e.g., ANOVA, regression analysis, analysis of mediation and moderation, exploratory factor analysis, structural equation modelling, conjoint analysis, or similar);
  • a PhD degree (or planned defense date) in a relevant area, such as marketing, consumer behaviour, or social sciences, with an emphasis on novel (applications of) advanced quantitative research methods and data-analysis techniques, or applied statistics. If you do not have a PhD yet, but you fit the other requirements, a PhD trajectory as part of the job is a possibility;
  • affinity with consumer behavior and/or marketing science;
  • affinity with societally relevant science on topics such as sustainability, health, food and agribusiness;
  • an interest in student-focused teaching;
  • excellent English language proficiency (a minimum of CEFR C2 level). For more information about this proficiency level, please visit our special language page;
  • knowledge of Dutch language and previous teaching experience will be valued.

Conditions of employment

Depending on the qualification, interests, and ambition of the candidate, we can offer you either:
  • a position as a lecturer with a lecturer career path that focuses on teaching;
  • a position as an assistant professor within the tenure track system, which focuses on teaching and research;
  • a mixed position of lecturer and PhD, which focuses on lecturing and doing a PhD.

In addition, Wageningen University & Research offers excellent terms of employment. Our Collective Labour Agreement includes, but is not limited to, the following:
  • partially paid parental leave;
  • working hours that can be discussed and arranged so that they allow for the best possible work-life balance;
  • the option to accrue additional compensation / holiday hours by working more;
  • a strong focus on vitality, and you can make use of the sports facilities available on campus for a small fee;
  • a fixed December bonus of 8.3%;
  • excellent pension scheme.

In addition to the first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between €3.226 and €5.929 for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10 or 11). Initially, we offer you a two-year contract, which will then be extended to an open-ended contract if there is mutual enthusiasm. Of course, we would be happy to discuss this with you if you have any questions.
